Alghochak
(اَل-غُو-چَک) stepping-stone (in a river)
سنگھای کلانی که در بین رود خانه برای عبور از آب گذاشته میشود
Alghochak has a deep and beautiful meaning in Dari; a stone that is thrown into the water and used as a stepping stone is called Alghochak.
This poetic verse resonates with the meaning of the word:
Friends, let’s pass
It is enough to stand next to the stream
Let’s throw a stone into the water
Let everyone understand that our sleep is complete (We have woken up)
Now Alghochak is many bridges. It is a bridge between Afghans and between Afghan and Northern Irish people. It is a bridge that links Afghanistan and Northern Ireland and - most importantly – it is a bridge between two peoples; two peoples with different pasts, different cultures and different countries but under the name of humanity and from the same universe. It is our bridge.
In Alghochak, our purpose is to build a bridge of communication, understanding and support between Afghan and Northern Irish people and the systems and organizations that support asylum seekers and refugees here. We strive to help all Afghans living in Northern Ireland to integrate into society in the fullest and most mutually beneficial way possible. We hope that the Northern Irish community will get to know the people of Afghanistan and their culture, their abilities and their many attributes. We recognize asylum seekers and refugees as normal people, without any labels, and seek to help them gain the opportunity to enjoy their basic human rights and freedom.
